Handicap Inactive Season
The Buffalo District Golf Association (BDGA) in conjunction with the New York State Golf Association has defined the period between Monday October 24, 2005 and Wednesday, April 26, 2006 to be an “Inactive Season” in New York State for handicap purposes. Scores from rounds played at any area course during this period do not count for handicap purposes due to the “Inactive Season” status and thus should not be posted.
However, scores from rounds played at courses in areas that do not observe an “Inactive Season” (those in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Nevada, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas) do count and must be posted for handicap purposes at the beginning of the 2006 Active Season. Click here to visit the USGA website to view a state-by-state listing showing active and inactive seasons. Click here to view an article on the USGA website which discusses the reasons for not posting rounds from "inactive seasons".
So, if you play Sheridan in November, or Glen Oak in early April, your rounds do NOT count for handicap purposes but rounds played in Florida, Arizona, California, Myrtle Beach, etc. during the winter DO count and must be posted for handicap purposes at the beginning of next season.
It is the responsibility of the Handicap Committee of each club to encourage and enforce this USGA-mandated regulation.
